Celebrating Visionary Design at the World Architecture Festival 2023

We were honoured to attend the World Architecture Festival Gala Night on 1 December 2023 as guests of Director Roland Teo from Meile Singapore, one of the Headline Partner of the event. Held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, the evening brought together a global community of architects, designers, and thinkers who are shaping the future of the built environment.

One of the most inspiring highlights of the evening was the awarding of Huizhen High School (China) as World Building of the Year. The project impressed the jury with its visionary integration of nature and learning, featuring a “floating forest” of classrooms and treehouses connected by winding walkways. Designed with an “efficiency-first” approach, it reimagines the traditional school environment by encouraging walking, reflection, and interaction with nature—proving that architecture can profoundly influence the way we live and learn.

A moment of immense pride for us was the recognition of Filipino talent on the world stage. Students from the University of Northern Philippines won the Student Charrette competition with their project, BALAY ARAPAAP: An Inclusive Informal Learning Center for the Remote Island of Puro Caoayan. Their work stood out for its deep social impact, cultural grounding, and inclusive design philosophy—an inspiring reminder of the creativity and purpose driving the next generation of Filipino architects.

Both winning projects underscore a powerful truth: that design can flourish when it works in harmony with nature. From floating forests to community-rooted learning spaces, these visions highlight how we can build spaces where we not only live and learn—but do so within nature itself. They show that sustainability, innovation, and ecological sensitivity are not separate goals, but deeply interconnected values.

The World Architecture Festival continues to be a beacon for design excellence, celebrating ideas that elevate both form and function with meaning and vision. We are grateful to have shared in this remarkable celebration of global design innovation.
